Outbreaks of monkeypox caused by orthopoxviruses infection have hit several continental European countries, the United States, Canada and Australia. Although, Health director-general Tan Sri Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah previously stated that the risk of monkeypox outbreak in Malaysia is low provided that there is no history of contact with infected animals or infected patients. The MOH strongly encourage for travelers especially from affected areas to take precautions.
